Time to create digital products!

Like I mentioned in my last post, the one celebrating the relaunch of my website, that was one of my three goals I have been working to get crossed off in 2014.  Yay! I think it came together quite nicely, if I do say so myself. Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway and helped me proofread and get everything perfect. Congrats to Kelley and Nell, the winners of the 2 Smashbox kits that I gave away on that post.

A few people have asked what is next? What are the other 2 big things I am trying to accomplish this year? Well, both involve April Bowles-Olin with Blacksburg Belle, a fellow creative lady entrepreneur also in VA.

One of the things I want to do is more personal than professional, I am looking to launch a lifestyle blog that is more of a creative outlet and something to do in all my non-existent spare time. Just as soon as I can sit down for 5 seconds, I am going to take April’s Creative Live Course on how to Build a Successful Creative Blog.  This is an older class of hers that I have already purchased and will be using all the info she dishes to launch the new venture. Im thinking that she is probably going to have plenty of magic sparkles of genius for me to incorporate there and also jazz up this old blog and probably Money Making Makeup Artist too!

Speaking of Money Making Makeup Artist, that is what my next project is about! That was born just before I got pregnant with Silas and was thinking of ways to work a little differently than I had been doing for years before. I am constantly getting messages on social media and emails from girls and guys who want to start their own successful businesses as stylists/ makeup artists and want to know how I have done it. I LOVE to talk business and entrepreneurship strategies! I love it as much or more some days, than doing hair and makeup, if you can believe that!

Without much a plan, I decided I was going to create a program to help people do exactly what I have done. I launched said program and it was pretty successful, but much more work than the passive stream of income I was hoping to generate. Thru some trial and error, which is the way I approach most things, I learned that what I needed first was to create some digital products that people could buy and do on their own before committing to 6 weeks of Emily bootcamp. The program was great but it was not inexpensive and required a big time commitment from both myself and the participants. It was a big chunk to take on. Which brings us to…

Why I want to learn how to create and sell digital products?

1. People want and need this information!  People are adding onto the email list MMMUA and emailing me everyday for help and I need to create a way to efficiently give them this information in a way that is easy for them to access.

2. I have already created the content! I think the program that I had created before was awesome but too much to bite off for someone just getting started. So I have reformulated it into snack sized portions so people can digest little by little and get the information as needed. If they have the digital info this way, they can do it in their own time and not need me to walk them thru it.

3. Selling digital products will help me help more people without them making a huge investment! Don’t get me wrong, I think you need to invest in yourself if you want to grow into that dream you’ve got. But I want to get this information to as many people as possible and having a big ticket 6-8 week course wasn’t getting the info into as many hands as I had hoped.

Being a freelance stylist and makeup artist is an awesome job and I am so grateful for all the cool experiences that I have had because of it. BUT I am not as young and spry as I was a decade ago and I find myself wanting to be home a bit more, especially as our family grows.

You may have caught this mentioned in the about me page of the website or on the contact page, but this guy is going to be a big brother early next year! Which means that now more than ever, I want/need to get this created so I can have this income stream to help me stay at home a bit longer with Baby #2.

Here I am, sharing some things I’ve been keeping to myself. This bump, I’ve been hiding under voluminous clothes for the last 4 months. And my last 2 goals, which if I don’t share publicly, I fear will fall by the wayside in my endless list of chores and other work. These things are important, so thank you for letting me share them with you. And for being excited with me, even on days when it feels like too much.

UPDATE: We found out the gender this weekend!!!! See that news here!

A few months ago, I applied to be in the live studio audience for April’s Creative Live Course, Create Digital Products While you Sleep.  I was shocked that I was accepted to be a part of such a cool experience! I was even more disappointed when I had to decline the opportunity due to some previous bookings and family commitments that don’t make travel to San Francisco that week possible.

Since I can’t be there in person to take this course (I am seriously so sad b/c it was kind of my birthday wish to be able to go), I am going to be camped out in front of my computer to do it as live as possible from my home office. That is the next best thing, right?

Please feel free to comment and share your thought on the website or the 2 goals that I just shared. I would love to hear words of advice or encouragement!

If you are a creative entrepreneur, blogger or just like a fun blog to follow, check out April at Blacksburg Belle. She is a delight! Thanks so much, April, for sharing your knowledge and hosting this fun blog tour (my first!) so we can all get to know each other.  Check out the list of other creatives who are participating in the tour here.

Recap of 2012

Every year, I like to recap the year to see where I have been before I start planning and
goal setting for next year. I feel like a wise person once told us that you need to understand
where you’ve been to clearly plan where you will be going next.

In 2012, I made HUGE progress in my business and personal life. I am expecting a baby soon, (YouTube Preview Image) and will make the gender announcement on YouTube next month. Subscribe to the YouTube channel and subscribe to get new blog posts to your email so you don’t miss it! We are busy getting our house ready for those changes.

I told myself that I was only doing 25 weddings in 2012 so that I could take some personal time and have some fun. Maybe I could learn to say no a little. I did better than I thought I would with this. I lost count but I think I did 28 or 29, but I for sure less than 30. Next year, I am only taking 12 brides. A few of those spots have been snagged so if you want one, speak now!

Last year, I launched a new business, Money Making Makeup Artist. This is a business consulting/mentoring/coaching program that I have created to help people launch their own freelance businesses. Head on over to the website and get the free resources that you get from my emails. Right now, there is a great giveaway that you won’t want to miss! Now here is my 2012 recap!

January: To start of the year, I had the opportunity to join some colleagues of mine from the Richmond Wedding Industry to speak on a panel at The Special Event in Tampa, Fl.  Our topic was The Time Crunch, Managing the Day of Timeline.  I learned so much from this opportunity that I as able to take with me thru rest of the year.

February:

My husband and I, along with our pals Kristen and Chris, attend the Washington D.C. Mardi Gras ball. Since Kristen and I are Louisiana natives, and my husband did live there for 2 years, we especially love this time of year. We were thrilled when we had the opportunity to attend this swanky event and had a great time. Then, when we got home, my husband surprised me by having a King Cake overnighted from New Orleans. Yep, I married well!

King Cake I also started my YouTube Channel, which had been a long time goal. I finally did it and I was pretty proud of myself that I managed to get this video submission to L’Oreal for a contest they were holding last year.YouTube Preview Image

March:

They say the first year is the hardest. On March 19th, we had officially been married for 1 year and I have to say that while year 1 was not too shabby, year 2 has been incredible. More on that coming soon. I already told you that we are expanding, right? Did you see the video announcement?

On our actual anniversary, my friend Katelyn James had us pose as the bride and groom in her Spring photography workshop. It was so fun to dress up and be a bride and groom (in different clothes, in a different city, in a different venue, with 30 photographers, HA!, no really we LOVED it).  Thanks, Katelyn, I love being a part of your Workshop Experience. I usually do hair and makeup for the models and this time I got to be a vendor and a model!

From there we scooted off to Charlottesville to enjoy a 1st anniversary get away weekend. It was wonderful!

April:

This is when the wedding season always gets fully in the swing of things so I was really busy with that, I think we had 4 or 5 that month. Technically, I think this was March 31 but its usually in April so we will include it here. We did the Monument 10k run here in Richmond. Since Im not the fastest racer, I make up for it with mad style.

May:

This is also a busy month for weddings, my team did 5 more this month. Im not sure how I found the time to go to New York City twice in May but Im glad that I did! Having the opportunity to attend the Fitness magazine blogger Meet and Tweet was incredible, more on that here. The very next week I went back for the Likeable Awards and the Makeup Show.

June:

This was a fun month, 2 more weddings, another trip to New York City for a photo shoot and a road trip to my husband’s home town for his family friend’s wedding. We had a great time!

July:

Three more weddings and loads of commercial work kept me really busy in July. Somehow I found time to squeeze in another fun race, the Color Me Rad color run.

August:

My mom came to visit RIchmond so that was a nice treat. The week after, I was hired as a stylist for the Vice Presidential candidate, Paul Ryan, when we spoke here.

September:

My husband and I bought our first home. We have been very busy the last few months getting everything together for our new arrival.

October:

This is by far, my favorite month of the year. I love my birthday and Halloween and all the fall parties that start happening. I hadn’t posted this picture on Facebook or Instagram since we hadn’t officially announced the baby yet, but this was my Halloween costume. I had a lot of fun with this.

November:

Thanksgiving is a close second favorite holiday (to my birthday/Halloween). I had a lot of fun tracking what I was grateful for each day. That inspired my gratitude challenge, which I encourage you to start in the new year. The email notifications that I get twice daily to prompt me to record what I am thankful for at that moment. I encourage you to try it out.

I was really grateful for all the kind words and sweet messages that we had gotten from our big announcement. Not going to lie, I have watched this video quiet a few times. It just makes me happy.

My husband and I took a spur of the moment trip to the Domincan Republic. It was much needed and all around amazing. While I was there I read 2 books, that I will be telling you more about soon. First I read, Blogger Inc, which you should grab if you are thinking of starting a blog or if you already have one. Even after 4+ years of blogging, I learned so much!

I had been wanting to read the Happiness Project for a long time. I ran out of magazines and books that I had brought, so I downloaded it on my iPad and it was a great read! It totally inspired a new project that you will see more of in 2013, so more on that later. Right now, I am reading the follow up, Happier at Home.

So that is my year in review. Coming soon, my January goals for 2013. Let’s do it together!

And we are Back!

Wow, is it just me or did last month just FLY by? Let me give you an update on what we were busy working on over here.

First off, I got the blog moved over from the old Blogger platform to here. Let me know what you think? Do you like it? Is there anything that we didn’t add that you were dying to see? We got all moved into our house and as soon as I can get my office into a somewhat organized space, I am going to make my first YouTube video from the new work space.

Right now I am working non stop on the new business coaching program, Money Making Makeup Artist. As soon as the new website is up for that, I will let you know. In the meantime, here is a little preview to new logo that I had made for the program. A huge thanks to LHCProDesigns for their amazing work. Lauren always delivers excellent work!

More on this coming soon!
